A Biblical View On Time
Time: A Gift Created For Mankind
Before the world began, God existed in the realm of timelessness. He is the "Everlasting Father" who transcends the physical laws of our universe. However, out of His love for us, He established time as a framework for our existence. We are going to look at a Biblical view on time.
- A Planned Framework: Time began at the moment of creation to accommodate the workings of God's purpose.
- Celestial Markers: In Genesis 1:14, God created the sun, moon, and stars specifically to serve as signs to mark sacred times, days, and years for humanity.
- Rest for Man: Even the weekly cycle was designed with us in mind; Jesus taught that the Sabbath was "made for man," providing a rhythm of work and rest.
Our Limited Time: A Call to Wisdom
While God is eternal, the Bible frequently reminds us that our earthly lives are brief and fleeting. This reality is not meant to cause fear, but to help us see how valuable every moment truly is.
- A Passing Vapor: Life is described as a "mist" or "vapor" that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
- Numbered Days: The Bible states that God knows the exact number of our months and has set limits we cannot pass.
- The Heart of Wisdom: Because our time is a finite resource, we are encouraged to "number our days" so we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Decisions in Time, Consequences in Eternity
The decisions we make within the boundaries of time echo into the vastness of eternity. Our time on Earth is a training ground where we prepare for what comes after.
- Citizens of Heaven: For those who follow Christ, this earthly life is a preparation for our true home in heaven.
- Eternal Destiny: Every small, daily choice—especially the decision to accept Jesus as Savior—ultimately determines our eternal destination.
- Investing for Forever: We are encouraged to "lay up treasures in heaven" by making choices today that have lasting eternal value.
The Urgency of "Now"
Because we do not know what tomorrow will bring, the most important time to act is the present moment. Procrastination is often described as a dangerous neglect of one's spiritual needs.
- The Day of Salvation: Scripture emphasizes that "now is the day of salvation".
- A Thief in the Night: The "Day of the Lord" will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night, reinforcing the need to be ready at all times.
- An Open Invitation: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. The invitation to accept Christ’s free gift of salvation is open now, but it is vital to respond before your time runs out.
Your Moment of Decision
We have seen that time is a precious, finite gift—a bridge between our current lives and an eternal future. Because we do not know how much time we have left, the most important moment of your life is right now.
God’s word says that "now is the day of salvation". He is not looking for a perfect life, but for a willing heart to turn to Him. If you feel a nudge in your spirit to secure your eternity and begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, you can do so today
A Simple Prayer of Faith
You can talk to God in your own words, but if you aren't sure what to say, you can use this salvation prayer as a guide:
"Dear God, I know that my time on Earth is limited and that I need You. I admit that I have made mistakes and sinned, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died for my sins and rose again to give me life. Right now, I choose to turn away from my old ways and open the door of my heart to You. Please be my Savior and the Lord of my life from this day forward. Thank You for the gift of eternal life. Amen."
