How are the near death experience and the afterlife connected?

How are the near death experience and the afterlife connected? The NDE or near death experience has been around since man began, but it was rare. Thanks to advances in medical technology, the after death (some people prefer the term afterlife)experience happens quite frequently.

Anyone who experiences a near death experience, also experiences a profound change in their lives. One thing to keep in mind though. A near death experience is not real proof of life after death. What this means is that what a person experiences when they are declared dead by the medical profession, but are revived a few minutes or moments later is not necessarily what they will experience when they really die.

Hebrews 9:27 “And as it is appointed unto men ONCE to die then judgment”.

Scripture plainly teaches that a person is judged when they die. Depending on their spiritual state, a person’s soul and spirit either go to heaven or hell once death has taken them and their body goes into the grave.

Although the near death experience may indeed give a glimpse into the afterlife, since it is not real death, the NDE could be deceiving.

The Apostle Paul had an after death experience. In the following passage, Paul is referring to himself. "I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know - God knows. And I know that this person - whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows - was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that humans are not permitted to tell." (2 Corinthians 12:1-4)

The near death experience is a phenomenon that is even talked about in the Bible. Are all near death experiences the same? The answer is no. Is it proof of life after death? Maybe. There are 4 types or variations of the near death experience and each type has their own ramifications on the person who experiences that particular type of NDE.

Type One - The person encounters a being of light who identifies himself as Jesus Christ.

Type Two - The person encounters a being of light who does not identify himself.

Type Three - The person finds himself in a “hellish” experience.

Type Four - The person experiences nothing at all.
