Catholicism VS. Christianity Catechism VS The Holy Bible

This article on Catholicism is not meant as an attack on the followers but to expose doctrines of this denomination that do not line up with what the Bible teaches. There are probably some false beliefs in most denominations. I focus on the this one because there are so many adherents to it. Religion is the biggest barrier between man and a true relationship with God. Religion is man making the rules to get to heaven. Pure religion is man obeying the rules God has set forth to get to heaven and meeting those requirements. Man made religion is evil and is practiced by the majority of mankind. The Roman Catholic church today bears little resemblance to what it was in the first three centuries of its existence. What happened to it?

Pagan beliefs and rituals crept in and corrupted it. Many practices originated in Babylon and there are well researched books that deal with this such as Alexander Hislop's The Two Babylons.

Paul said, "Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?" 1 Cor. 5:6

Another way of saying that is "One bad apple spoils the whole bunch."

One pagan doctrine leads to another and soon the church has become a body that blends fantasy with reality with the result being the corruption of its core truths.

The Catechism is the "rulebook" of Catholicism. Catholics may deny that this book does not overrule what the Bible teaches but if they follow the "rulebook" and the "rules" are not found in scripture, then the Catechism becomes their authority. So what are some of the things taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church that cannot be found in the Holy Bible?

Holy Bible: "10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. " Hebrews 10

This tells us that Jesus Christ made one sacrifice for all the sins of mankind. No other sacrifice is needed. Jesus paid the price of redemption for all of mankind for all of eternity. No one else qualifies.

Catechism (1405,1411) Only validly ordained priests can carry on the work of redemption.

I ask you, the reader, how can a man who is ordained a priest by the Catholic Church take away my sin or your sin? How can they carry on the work of redemption when the price has already been paid?

Some may say this is referring to the fact that only ordained priests can tell others about Jesus which is completely contrary to what the Bible teaches as we are all commissioned to go into the world to tell others the good news about Christ and his redemptive work.

Holy Bible "1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, 3 forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. " 1 Timothy 4

Timothy tells us that religious organizations whose doctrines claim we cannot marry or to abstain from certain foods are actually doctrines of demons.

Cathechism (1599) Clergy must publicly manifest their intention of staying celibate.

Celibate means to abstain from sex. Because marriage includes sex, then clergy cannot marry. This means that a priest can never have a child who can be brought up in the priesthood. In fact, a priest or nun can never have a family of their own unless they give up the priesthood.

One of the greatest blessings of God is to have a family of your own. This is where God teaches you how to love one another. Family members can be very strange to us but we stick by them in times of trouble.

Holy Bible "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. " 1 John 1:7

This is very simple and straightforward. All my sin has been washed away by the shed blood of Christ. Therefore, when I die, I will not have to pay the penalty for my sins because I trusted in the cleansing power of Christ's redemptive act.

Cathechism (1031) Purgatory's cleansing fire is the final purification for sin.

According to Catholicism, when you die, you go to a lake of fire to cleanse you from sin. I would hate to be a Catholic and on my deathbed believing I was about to enter a lake of fire. The belief in Purgatory could not be found in the early Catholic church. For more on the subject of Purgatory, Click Here

Holy Bible "11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are." John 17

"16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever-- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. " John 14

"5:23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. "

These passages tell us that the Holy Spirit is the Vicar of Christ (vicar means one who acts in place of another), that God is the Holy Father, and Christ is the Head of the Church. The trinity is represented here.

Catholicsm: The Pope wears the titles Holy Father (sometimes called Holy See), Head of the Church, and Vicar of Christ.

According to Catholicism, the Pope represents the trinity therefore he is God. Granted no Catholic really believes the Pope is God and even the most simple minded person knows better but the Pope carries the titles of God.

Holy Bible John 14:6 "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. "

Acts 4:10 - 12 "10 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

1 Timothy 2:5 "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, "

Scripture is crystal clear: Jesus Christ is the only way into heaven. Makes sense since He is part of the triune Godhead which created it.

Catechism (841) Muslims are part of God's plan of salvation.

The fact is that Islam is an enemy of Christianity. Muslims who are faithful to the Koran must kill a Christian if he cannot convert one. The same goes for Jews.

How the Catholic church came to the conclusion that Muslims are part of God's plan of salvation is beyond me. But that's what happens when you mix Paganism in with God's word.

Maybe Catholicism meant Muslims were to be included in God's plan of salvation. The truth is they are included if they trust in Christ. When that happens, they cease to be Muslims.

Holy Bible: "6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16 "Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. "

Jesus tells us to pray to the Holy Father and not to use vain repetitions as the heathen do.

Catechism (2676,2683) Catholics should ask Mary and the saints to intercede for them.

This teaching of the Catholic church cannot be found in the Holy Bible. Praying to the Virgin Mary is a form of idolatry and a violation of one of the ten commandments. For more about the worship of the Virgin Mary click this link: Catholicism and The Virgin Mary

Conclusion: The Holy Bible is the word of God and the Catechism is the word of man. Who are you going to believe?
